...Antelope Valley Tailwinds and the US Marine Corps Toys for Tots, Dec 11, 2005...

On Sunday, December 11 the Antelope Valley Tail Wind help a US Marine Corps Reserve Toys For Tots drive at our flying park near Challenger way in Lancaster. The event was quite a success. I would like to take time to give credit to all the fine fine folks who made it the success it was. The Marines who were on station were LCpl Henry Calderon and LCpl Matthew Chambers of HMM 764 at EAFB. The unit has been deployed to Iraq more than once. Matthew has served two tours Iraq. LCpl Calderon has volunteered to go and expects he will be accepted to go soon. SSgt Don Anderson is the Toys for Tots Coordiantor at EAFB. All three men did an extremely professional job as the Marine Corps always does. There were enough new toys collected to nearly fill a mid size van. Great turn out!!!!!! The following people displayed their classic cars for all to see: Tom Hall drove his 1911 Model T to the show Tom is a member of the Antelope Valley Tail Winds. Angel Guilloty brought out his 1927 Model T touring, right hand drive, manufactured in Canada and marketed in Australia. Bob Brown drove his 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air to the event. Bob Clutter provided us with a look at his 1965 Ford Mustang. Scott Raisch displayed his 1966 Ford Fairlane 500 powered by a 7 liter engine. 7 liter equates into huge. This is a very rare automobile, as they all are. Scott Raish restored to pristine condition the '65 Mustang that his Father in law owns and his own Fairlane 500. All of these vheicles are absolute beauties. Many years of work has gone into restoring these awesome automobiles. The Antelope Valley Touring Sciety, AVTS, A local motorcycle organization, made an excellent showing. Doug Hoffelt rode his 1998 Honda Valkery for us to admire. Angel Guilloty brought out his 1927 Model T, which was mentioned earlier. Diego Sanchez brought his Honda CBR 900R Sportbike. Al Groover was riding and displaying his 1998 Honda Valkery Tourer. Bill Mitchell Rode out on his very nice 2000 Harley Davidson 1200 Sporster. Many thanks to all these fine folks who showed up with their beautiful motorcycles and helped out with the event. Most of the family members of all these folks with the Cars and Motorcyles came out for the vent as well. Thanks to their families for the support. The AVTS, a non profit/charitable organization, consists of about 40 members. They ride all kinds of motorcycles. An extremely nice group of folks to be associated with. The AVTS meets the first Wednesday night of the month at The Green House Cafe in Lancaster at 7:30 PM. If you are interested come join us for dinner, a relaxed meeting and nice time. We were also were treated to a very exciting attaction with two manned Ultra lights. Tom Trueba and Hare Kokkinos flew their modern Ultra lights from Brian's Ranch airport at Llano. Flight time was forty minutes. Tom and Hare gave us a couple of fly overs before they landed. The flyovers occured after the RC flying show commenced and we had nice crowd to see the Ultralights in action. They had to depart prior to the ending of the show which turned out to be quite a treat. Tom flies a Quick Silver Sport II. I must apologize for not remembering which aircraft Hare flies. Both are very nice airplanes. Many Thanks to Tom and Hare for coming out and taking part in our Toys For Tots Drive event. For those interested, flying lessons of Ultral ights are available at Brians Ranch Airport in Llano. The Toys for Tots event was catered by Scott and Family from the Blue Bird Cafe in Lancaster. They are located on the east side of Sierra Highway between Ave I and Lancaster Blvd. The food was great. Their service was terrific. Give them a try sometime if you haven't already. The airplane displays and demonstrations were quite exciting as well as interesting. Our club member/instructor pilot and announcer extrodinair, Ken Beck, did a fine job of keeping everybody up to date as to what was happening in the sky. AVTI member Tim Williams brought out his water truck to help keep the dust down. He did a very fine job of it. Amongst those fine people providing flight demonstrations was National Champion Kent Nogy who travelled from Paso Robles to be here for the Toys for Tots Drive at AVTI. We had everything from giant scale jets to small foam electric powered airplanes flying at different times. Beginers flight lessons were available with the help of a flight instructor on a buddy box. Twenty one people took part in this fun event. Many thanks to Toby Hedrick and Ken Beck for helping out with as instructor pilots. Good Job men. Joe Dagata provided a laptop computer with the Real Flight Simulator, which many took advantage of. We also recieved assistance/air time from Clear Channel Radio, 103.1 KTPI and 105.5 Oasis. Adelphia cable helped promote the event on the local channel. Antelope Valley Press was kind enought to run an informative article in the A section the day prior to our event. All of you are terrific to help sponsor this worthy cause. On behalf of the Antelope Valley Tail Winds RC model airplane club I would like THANK the sponsors, each and everyone of you for helping, participating or just visiting our Toys For Tots drive event on December 11 at our flying park. A special thanks goes out to the Marines Corp Reserve for helping to make this terrific event happen and all for a great cause, CHILDREN. Chuck LaMons Member - Antelope Valley Tail Winds Inc.
